In the 1990s, Liu Zhiyong (Shen Teng), a small-time employee at the Meteorological Bureau, epitomizes the group of self-seeking intellectuals, but is instead a rebel in the iron rice bowl. Growing up in a patriarchal family, he always thought he could make a name for himself. It is at this time that Liu Zhiyong receives an invitation from a close friend to go to Xihai. Liu Zhiyong quits his job in the system and prepares to go to Xihai from the mainland to seek opportunities and to start crashing into all the established “orders”.
